Justin Anand Shahani, 41, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2026, in Laguna Beach, California.
Justin leaves behind his mother, Susan, his father, Ajit, his stepmother, Vicki, his twin sister, Kala, his younger brothers, Kory and Nathan, his stepsiblings, Gina and Panos, and his nephew and nieces, Kobe, Keira and Karli. He loved his family deeply, and the bond he shared with his twin sister, Kala, was especially strong and began from the moment they entered the world together and remained a constant throughout his life.

When I saw this picture of Justin and his twin sister on their 41st birthday, my heart sank. I feel so much this family but even more so for his twin ! Somehow she will go on without him but it wont be easy. I did not know Justin or his twin sister kala but i know loss . I would love to bring your family a meal or bake you something. My heart goes out to you all with this very unexpected loss that seems unbearable.
Justin was both a colleague and a friend. While I knew his sister in SoCal, I didn’t meet justin until moving to Boston for the Greenline project. He knew of me, and put in a good word when my name came up as a person who could help make it a reality. After moving to the Northeast, I ended up meeting my wife and the mother of my daughter. No doubt Justin’s recommendation played an instrumental part in putting me in the right place at the right time. He was someone who was comfortable solving tough work problems, philosophizing about deep intellectual topics, schropping the gnar on a board, or shooting off fireworks on a frozen lake. I will miss you Juice, may you and your family find peace.
Music was always at the center of my friendship with Justin. He was with me behind the drum kit the first time I ever stepped on a stage and we always enjoyed discovering new music together. It’s said that the rhythm section has a special bond together and it could not have been more true with Justin. It’s hard to find the words to fully convey what an unimaginable loss this is and how much I miss him. Rest easy and keep rockin, brother.
